10 things / ways I ‘created’ or ‘made’ things this year

When I set out on this year of adventures I was the least sure about this category and set of things that I would make and create. Experiences (a.k.a celebrations), Challenges and Journeys all felt like a really natural and understandable way of expressing myself and making the overall adventure happen. However as I began to think, reflect, dream and scheme, having a creating/making outlet alongside the other three aspects started to make more and more sense. These ten things have in many ways blended experiences, challenges and journeys together and out of it have come some really beautiful and wonderful things.

I have to say that organising a gig at The Half Moon in Putney for Refugee Support Network and Curating and Hosting a day on ‘Soulfulness’ have been my highlights, however, to risk over using the same corny line, each of these 10 things I’ve made or created have in their own way been very special and have each reminded me of the life and joy I get from organising, writing, curating, hosting, baking, discussing, listening, resting, collaborating and enabling myself and others to experience and be part of amazing things.

Like all the themes in this overall adventure, I have loved the focus and intentionality of what I have done and how this year has helpfully and I believe healthily pushed me and inspired me to do things that I have wanted to do and not quite had the courage, time or means by which to do them.

Here’s the full set of 10 and links to each of my writing and reflection on them.

Creation 1: Setting up a blog to write about the year. Ok, so this might seem easy/ a cop out, but enjoyable as it’s been, it has taken quite a bit of my time to reflect, write and document this year. I’m really glad I did it and that it’s enabled an outlet to write and reflect and take me deeper into this whole year of adventure. https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/

Creation 2: Writing a piece of liturgy for use at an event. https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/2016/07/22/creations-2-writing-liturgy/

Creation 3: Curating a Radiohead listening weekend. It was a lot old fun and deeply educational to read, post, play and create lots of content over the weekend. https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/2016/09/09/a-musical-autumn-part-1-radiohead-experience/

Creation 4: Helping set up a Men’s discussion group and co-leading it, and creating a Lent book discussion at work. https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/2017/03/13/creations-4-mens-group-and-work-book-club/

Creation 5: Baking a Marble Cake with Chocolate Ganache. https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/2016/11/07/a-busy-week-creations-5-and-6-cakes-and-gigs-oh-and-more-gigs-journeys-and-experiences-yes-this-is-an-epic-week-almost-as-epic-as-this-blog-title/

Creation 7: Setting up and hosting a Music Club at work https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/2017/03/10/creation-7-music-club/

Creation 8: Taking a break from Worship Leading to rest, read, reflect, re charge and re-imagine what it might mean and look like to play in and lead worship. https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/2017/03/13/creations-8-worship-rest-reflect-read-re-charge-and-reimagine/

Creation 9: Curate and host a gathering on ‘Soulfulness’ https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/2017/03/20/creations-9-soulfulness-a-gathering/

Creation 10: Co-create/invest in a crowdfunder I believe in and then pay forward the dividends and create further experiences out of that initial investment – Toast Ale https://mattcurreyis40.wordpress.com/2017/06/01/creation-10-toast-ale/
